Herewith are 3 everday tips to help you master the English language:
Make friends
Make friends, even if it’s just one friend, with an English native speaker.
This will help you assimilate the English culture, the slang, its sense of humour and jokes.
As you know, native speakers of any language speak incredibly fast, ‘swallow’ words, and join words together, almost like creating, in a sense, ‘music’. By hanging out with English speakers, it will help not only your listening skills but also, in picking up the nuances of this wonderful weird language: English
Improve your vocabulary on a daily basis
Take just 5 new words, or expressions every day and learn how to pronounce them, their meanings, and how to use them in a sentence of your own.
Now, take these 5 new words from something you have read that day, whether it was on a billboard, an article, a subtitle from your favourite series, anything you have seen that day. Taking the words from something you have seen or experienced that day will not only give that phrase, or word a context but also, you are more likely to remember it.
Watch a movie or a series in English
Watch your favourite movie or series again.
The first time you watched it you probably watched it with the subtitles in your mother-tongue. That’s ok, but now take an excerpt of 5-10 minutes of it and watch it without the subtitles and see how much you can understand. Probably not too much the first time. Watch those 5-10 minutes again without the subtitles. I’m sure you will pick up a little more. On the 4th attempt put the subtitles on in English and read what you missed the 1st 2nd and 3rd times. Use a dictionary to help you understand the new words.
